The City Is Ribbed For Your Pleasure

Above, the work of Ay-O, age 92.

I really need to find time to cull my RSS feed subscriptions, because they’re overrun with posts about AI, and the only AI story I cared about lately was the one where AI might have identified a new antibiotic. (Try replacing “AI” with “clever use of spreadsheets” in every story you see about AI.) This is the sort of thing filling my RSS reader:

AI generated inflatable skyscrapers.” One suspects this comes from the same techbro k-hole as the time networked clothing was described as “wearable shirts.” Apparently the above is “fresh inspiration” and not “there are a lot of condoms in the image library learning model.” Look closely and you will see that the speculative city of the future is ribbed for your pleasure.

APOD: 2023 May 16 – Total Eclipse: The Big Corona

APOD: 2023 May 16 – Total Eclipse: The Big Corona Most photographs don't adequately portray the magnificence of the Sun's corona. Seeing the corona first-hand during a total solar eclipse is unparalleled. The human eye can adapt to see coronal features and extent that average cameras usually cannot. Welcome, however, to the digital age. The featured image digitally combined short and long exposures taken in Exmouth, Australia that were processed to highlight faint and extended features in the corona during the total solar eclipse that occurred in April of 2023. Clearly visible are intricate layers and glowing caustics of an ever changing mixture of hot gas and magnetic fields in the Sun's corona. Looping prominences appear bright pink just past the Sun's edge. Images taken seconds before and after the total eclipse show glimpses of the background Sun known as Baily's Beads and diamond ring effect. The next total solar eclipse will cross North America in April of 2024.

People on patreon seemed to be traumatized by this, and I guess what I'm saying is for a couple bucks a month, you could've been traumatized a day early.
